We have two v6 outboard engines which we believe to be Merc/Mariner 150,175,200 or 225 hp. The numbers appear on the engines as follows:

969-9078-C3 engine 1
968-9078-C3 engine 2

We just have the engines themselves -- no transem mounts, cowls, etc.

Are these serial numbers? If so, any help in determining Year and HP would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Re: Merc/Mariner Model Year & Size

Welcome to iboats. :)

The C in the suffix indicates that it's a casting number. Many different horsepowers come from the same casting. Hopefully there are quarter-size silver welch plugs with the serial number stamped on them on the block. Without those, it's going to be tough to ID.

Re: Merc/Mariner Model Year & Size

Okay - one of the motors has a welch plug with the serial number 0G257362. Merc's website indicates this is then a model 7175413DD Mariner Magnum EFI 1.87:1. Still having trouble determining year/hp. Any help from this point? Thanks again.....Also, the welch plug on engine two is non-existent.
