Merc Outboard sticky tilt lever

Hello,

I have a Merc 40hp outboard, When I tilt up the motor the latch were the motor rests seems to stick. If i nudge the latch not the lever it releases and I can lift the motor. I notcied that there is a rod down the motor with a lock nut. Is there a adjustment or fix for this problem?

Hey Guys,

Maybe I was unclear, should the motor just lift up when move the lock on the side and then slide the lever to lock the motor so it will stay up when Im launching the boat in the water??
