Merc outboard stopped peeing water

It worked fine the last time I was out. Today, I noticed it wasn't peeing water. I was in the Wisconsin river and had to get through a shallow sandbar, some I'm wondering if i might've plugged it up. How do I check for that? And how do I clean or fix it?

Check your intakes and be sure they are not clogged. If sand got into your impeller, it probably needs replaced. I would flush everything out as much as possible too.

What happened to you happened to me once. Except it was mud. I ran the garden hose nozzle full power into the intakes. Once water started coming out the pee hole, I put the muffs on and ran for about 10 minites to flush it out good.<br /><br />Jerry

I will try flushing it out tomorrow and see what happens. I read up on replacing the impeller and I know it's something that I could probably do, but as a newbee to boating I'd rather not mess around with all that, if possible.
