My dad and I just got back from the National Boat Show at the Javits Center in New York City and we were asking the Mercury engineers about whether they ever made a twin screw replacement lower end for outboards liek they have for inboards. They said they did back in 1996-1997 and called the project "Deuces Wild". We have a 200hp Merc outboard and are looking for such a lower unit to play around with. Dows anybody know where I can get such a thing? The engineers mentioned they had a bunch of problems with prop pitch and torque but it was a good concept. Let me know if you have a lead on one of these.

Re: Merc Outboard Twin screw

Someone elce will have more info, but I don't believe the engine ever saw real production, and I think the decal on the prototype was "Deuce High" and was designed for surfacing props. Two counter rotating props and a two speed shiftable transmission. I've heard that the main reason the project was shelved was the cost. It now sits in the lobby at Merc racing.

Yamaha had a production run of TRP V6 outboards with counter rotating props.

The one I saw was called "Deuces Wild" and had all 4 duces on the hood. It had a sign next to it saying "2 props, 2 speeds, 2 hundred hp, 2 cool!".

Great concept of one prop working and then oil pressure engaged the second at a given point.
