Have had an older Merc outdrive in the backyard for a couple years with no oil in it and...SURPRIZE!!! I cant get it to manually turn as I'd like to sell it now. It has low hrs on since its been rebuilt. Any suggestions on what I need to do,how and anything else I need to check for to ready it for sale. Its an older Mercruiser as the top cap(4- 12 pt bolts about 4" sq.) has the eyehook lifting hole.Thank You much in advance for any help, all is appreciated.

Howdy,

Difficult to say what it's worth.....core value maybe.

Anyone getting it knowing what you have said would probably want to completely disassemble it and at least replace all the seals and check all the gears and bearings.

The water pump may be stuck from sitting up.

You could always split the drive and try moving each half (with the water pump impeller removed).

Ayuh,... I would suspect you have Nothing...

If it got condensation in it, which I believe it would,.. It's probably Rusted solid...
And, surface Rust on the gears leaves them Valueless...

Take the plugs out, spray some penetrating oil in the cylinders and leave for a day. You may luck out and be able to use a breaker bar on the fly wheel to free it up.

Then get ready to overhaul!
