Merc Outdrive Serial Numbers

1985 Sea Ray Sundancer SRV300 with twin 5.7 mercruiser V8s and Alpha 1 Gen 1 Drives.<br /><br />I bought this boat used and recorded the serial number for each drive, so I can buy the right parts. My starboard drive was S/N 0B796231 and the port drive was F6910806. The "F" in the serial number was huge in size.<br /><br />One of my questions, is there anything significant to the drive with the letter F? Does it mean that it is counter rotating by any chance? The boat came with stainless steel right hand props on both drives.Thank you..

The OB796231 drive is an Alpha I drive, the 6910806 drive is an 85 MC1 drive.<br />It was originally on an engine with SN 06921456, an 85 Mercruiser 260 engine, but the Mercruiser record shows it as being in a 26ft boat.<br />Do you have any serial numbers for the engines themselves?<br />The F doesn't seem to be factory. May be something a rebuilder stamped in there some where through the years.

Thanks Don.<br /><br />The engines were replaced in 2002. 5.7L with serial numbers 0M086315 and 0M086308. These were out of the crate factory mercruisers. I found these numbers on a sticker attached to the owners manual for the engines. This weekend I will see if they match what might be on the engines. <br /><br />The guy who sold the boat, gave me alot of papers and receipts for the boat. One thing stood out was a receipt for outdrive work. It was under the name of the first owner (I'm the third). Seems like both water pumps were melted and the drives needed to be resealed. When the seller showed me the boat, he said the drives were alphas. Thinking back, he kind of acted like he wasn't telling the whole truth about the drives.<br /><br />Do you think the water pumps are the same for both drives? I just bought two kits off of ebay. If not, I can save one for the next time I change it out. Thank you..
