Re: merc pressure tanks?
I have a MK20 which uses the old round-style Merc pressure fitting. The tank that came with it is in mint condition including the inside. When I retire I'm gonna restore that motor to its former glory. The old ones sure were cool!
BTW if you run across one of the ol' birds that used a pressure tank, and you can find the Merc fitting, you can always use an OMC pressure tank. There's a lot more of them kicking around at 'reasonable' prices, than the Merc tanks.
As Laddies said, it's a lot easier to convert them to a fuel pump, most are set up so you can do that. When I resurrect one of the old Johnrude pressure-fed motors I usually will upgrade it to a 'modern' fuel pump and single-line hose. I'm gonna leave my Merc stock, for originality's sake.
Fuel pumps are lots safer, also. Imagine the product liability suits nowadays if this system were still in use; unplug the pressurized tank and the fitting leaks, spraying atomized fuel all over the place! Lite 'em up, boys, smoke 'em if you got 'em!!!!! BOOM!!!
