Hey guys I have a 17 ft rinker with a 125 merc outboard. I was given a aluminum 23 pitch merc prop by a guy who doesn't have a need for it. My question is, is this to much pitch for my motor. I currently run a 21p and get 45mph at 5200, and a 19p that is 41 at 5200, both are aluminum and speed is from gps. I know I will pick up a little top end with a 23p but will it be hard on my motor. Anyone run this size motor with a 23p. Thanks

Re: Merc Prop question

Imo your allready too low and should be closer to 5,700 due to the doctored fuels of today. The 23 will put you at about4,800.give you terrible hole shot, may cost mph and may cause premature repair problems.Motors in that hp range typically run a 17" prop of course that would depend on the boat and gear ratio.

Re: Merc Prop question

5700 rpm is way to high for my motor. 4800-5250 is recommended wot and from what I've read you don't want to be over revving these motors.
