Merc Shaft length ?

Looking to repower. I currently have an 87' Black Max (Model 1150746 - SN 0B219598). How can I tell the shaft length 20", 25" (where do you measure from)?<br /><br />Boat is rated for 225 (max HP). I'm thinking of going up to a 175 or 200. <br /><br />Any advise is appreciated.<br /><br />John

Do you have a spacer between the exhaust housing and lower unit? Yes? 25", No? 20"

Johnny S,<br /> Measure from inside the motor bracket(where it makes contact with transom) to the cavitation plate on the motor.This is your shaft length.You can also measure from the top of the transom to the bottom of the boat...
