Merc Sport Jet 120 vs JonsRude Sport jet 115 ?

I may be buying one or the other. A 94 Four Winns Fling with the johnson/evinrude 115 turbo jet (in/outboard modified for jet) or a 95 Sea Rayder F 16 with the Merc 120 sport jet. This is my first post so if this is the wrong thread....let me know...other than jetski, this is first time boat buy

The Fling is in good shape hull wise and seats and it was supposedly rebuilt 5 years ago due to piston seize. The compression was between 125 to 135 on all 4 and that was tested with engine cold. It is a bit rough to start and the owner said so but once it is up and running it is good for the day as far as re-starts. It has a good trailer also and they want just below 2k for everything. My main question is that I asked the owner about the gear oil and he said "he had no idea it had any because it was a 2 stroke" there is a yellow fill plug in plain site and I am kind of scared to "trust" that it went that many years with no attention. I messed up and didnt check when I looked at it because the cap was on too tight.

The other one is a F-16 Sea Rayder 1995 that is supposed to be in very clean shape. (They are not sure what they want for it but maybe $3,500)I would offer them less. They havent used it in a few years but supposedly had it winterized. That one has the merc 120 sport jet with a few more accesories (like bimini top etc.) and also a trailer. They said the last time they used it a mechanic said he thought the starter was going or was bad (I hear that is common) My main question is do both of these boats handle about the same? I am not planning to use it for major tubing but rahter going fast with one or two people and anchoring in the bay to swim and drown some limes.

My biggest concern is the motor and drive is one motor better or more reliable than the other? and the issue of the oild, if I look and the stick is normal and the oil isnt like bunt mud is that pretty safe? Any opinions welcome on any part of my question....thanks in advance

First lets start with, you can still get parts for the Sport Jet, but you can't for the OMC unit. Both are simple to work on and I've had four of the Sport jets in about as many years. The 16 foot with the 120 isn't as fast as it needs to be but I've had the 120 in two 14 footers and they move along quite well. We've had customers give the OMC units away when the jet units fail due to not being able to get the parts. So far we've had no problems getting the parts for the Mercury unit and are fairly easy to disassemble and repair. Wear ring takes about and hour to change and that's usually the only drive problem you'll have.

So the sport jet is a 120 in the f-16 and it has bimini top and trailer and is supposedly very clea. I am looking at it in a day or two so they want 3 k for the entire deal so I may offer 2,500 since it may need a few little things
