Merc steering cable

Hi Gang
Well I need to know if there is a cross ref number for my merc steering cable which is 48226 (B) and it is 13 feet long and was wondering is telaflex has a replace number for this or will I have to go to local Merc shop to get this cable ? thanks for your help

Ayuh,.... Steerin' cables are not from Mercruiser....

If the cable is bad, a complete helm, 'n cable kit is the way to go...

Did ya clean out 'n grease the aluminum tube at the transom,..??

Yes I did that but went ahead and pulled the cable out and it is very hard to to pull it in and out . the rack is in good shape just need to replace the cable and it is a 14 foot ride glide

Mercury Marine did do a range of steering systems, but the older straight rack and pinion and the cables from them are long since deleted and the cables are NLA. (I have been searching for a 13' cable for one for a few years with no luck). I did find that a dealer in California who carried some very old parts a while ago and may have the cable you need. The number you supplied is from the housing, not the cable. For the straight rack cable the number is -11111Axx (xx being the length in feet).
