merc steering rod threads stripped.

Like the title says they are stripped from pounding the steering rod in. Tried a die and that didn't work I've been filing it down but it won't go on straight): this is sea Star steering. Thanks guys

I'm a bit confused by your "pounding the steering rod in" comment.

What is stripped, the end of the drag link which goes through the rod on the steering cable?

Steering cable should slide into tilt tube, and drag link should drop into end of steering cable.

Do you have the correct drag link for your motor?

Ayuh,...... If ya can't fix it, contact Sea Star for a replacement,.... it ain't a Merc part,.....
