Merc has different part number for the ICMs within the same year type of motor. ie a 96 5.7LX Alpha is a different part than a 96 5.7LX Bravo. Originally I thought the the ICM was tied into an drive alarm threashold, but don't have my manuals here (they are at the lake w/boat). Does anyone know what the differences are? Are they interchangable without problems?

Alpha has shift interrupt capabilities, Bravo doesn't.

Don, thanks for quick response.

So, would an Alpha work on a Bravo, just not connected to via shift interupt, but a Bravo ICM will slam an Alpha drive on a shift change?

Why not just use the right one?
I've never tried an Alpha on a Bravo. I replace them with the correct part only.
