Merc V-6 Prop shaft adapter?

I bought a Laser II stainless prop for my XR-2 V-6 150HP. Took off the old prop, slid the new one on, and...the aft portion of the hub has no detents to catch the locking tabs of the washer. Dug around in the boat and found what appears to be an adapter--catches the aft portion of the spined shaft and has the detents. But, is this meant to be used with or without the front thrust spacer? Without the thrust spacer the prop goes pretty far forward but the aft adapter gets a good bite on the splines. With the thrust spacer, the prop "sits" about right relative to the lower unit, but the adapter barely gets any spline at all. Hmmm...

Re: Merc V-6 Prop shaft adapter?

All Merc props need a thrust waher in front of the prop. There are different kinds and you have to make sure you have the right one. Then there is that splined washer you refer to on the backside of the prop. Some have it built into the prop, and with others they're separate. The newest style with the plastic hub has a different set of hardware altogether and none of the parts are interchangeable from one to the other except for the prop nut and locking tab. I wish I could provide you with a list of which goes to which, but I'm at home and don't have that at my disposal. I hope somebody else can help with that.

I would like the list if the two different hubs. I just bought an older style hub prop. I would love to try it out, but I can't install it w/out the old style stuff.

Lewis
