Fuel dripping from carb area,so I took silence box cover off and started engine.Seems to be coming from thin hose connected to Silence box, bubbling fuel into silence box. What is that hose for??? It doesn't say in my manual, only that I should disconnect small hose to silence box when taking off carbs.Very confused. Thanks in advance.

Like I said in the other post. You need to post a serial# to identify the motor.Hp/serial#/model etc.
They made a few carbs and without knowing what were looking at.If you have fuel comming back through the hose.It could be a few things.Bad fuel pump, dirty carbs.Bad reeds, low compression.
Do a compression/spark test.J

Like Jerry said, do compression test, if good most likely a stuck float in one of the carbs

Thanks,I know the ser# starts with oc but I'll have to get exact tomorrow.Almost midnight.Did check compression 6 months ago and all were good 125 - 130.I'll do another one though I'm pretty sure it's the carbs. Why hose into the silence box?Is that a safety thing.

Re: MERC V6 135 1988 Carb Problem

Just an update.Did compression test the right way this time. All 6 cylinders between 114 - 117.Strange thing was no leak after 10 minutes running motor.I'm now thinking it's a sticky needle/seat and not saturated float.....I hope.Any thoughts.

Sometimes carb floats do stick. Good luck with it.
