Hey everyone,

I'm a total n00b but mechanically inclined, and thus armed with my tools and alot of self confidence I bought a used little aluminum boat from a member of my fishing forum.
it had this motor 99% reassembled but he couldn't get it out of gear and thought this small shaft w/two springs on it went somewhere in the cam clutch.
I ordered the manual online and looked at all schematics but see no sign of it.
I pulled the powerhead off and messed around with the shift mechanism, and proceeded to break this picklefork shaped thin metal piece on the shifter cam(?).
anyone know where I can get one?
I also spun the prop by hand and heard something that sounded like sand in the shaft tube (if there is one). Then I noticed the shaft itself appeared bent looking straight down on it.

now I'm thinking it might be best to swap the powerhead onto a donor body(? ... sorry I'm completely new to this and don't know what to call stuff) since that part apparently works well. Or did.
I'm in San Gabriel Valley and need guidance from here on where to go for junkyard parts and stuff.

Thanks in advance.

YES YES YES!!!! you're freaking awesome! thanks!
Is there a correct position for putting the driveshaft back in? we were almost correct in putting that pawl spring setup today, and I was able to find forward and reverse but not neutral. I read somewhere it needed to be lined up right, but I don't have a clue how to tell since I didn't take it out the first time around.

Now where can I find the starter pawls - PO lost 2 of 3 :)

I guess that lining up the driveshaft has never come up, so in just checking the manual there is no mention of it. Just a couple of things on this type of unit brfore you spend a lot of money on it. 1. there are not parts available new. 2. they require many speical tools to repair properly. 3.most marinas won't give advice or don't have the tools or knowledge to repair them. 4th and probably the most important you need a OEM manual to work on them.
Heres a link for starter pawls, item 31. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...2&bnbr=20&bdesc=TOP+COWL+AND+STARTER+ASSEMBLY

Re: Merc200 dynafloat bent driveshaft?

sounds like my old jeep :)
I'm familiar with scrounging junk yards for parts, but I've never tried to find a boat yard. I'm assuming there are a few around Los Angeles.

Has anyone ever written up a parts compatibility post? We have many threads of this sort in Jeep forums. If I hit the boat boneyard I'd like to know what else might work.

Thanks again for your generous help, Laddies. I can tell you're a major contributor to this board. Hope one day I'll know enough to help someone out myself.
