Guys,
I have a 1989 3.0L Merc with the 2bbl Mercarb (Part Number 1389-9562)

When I look through all the diagrams on the web (including Mercruiser's own website) there is a missing part in the diagrams.

The part is the vertical rod in the bowl that slides in the airhorn. This part is responsible for tapping the power jet when needed. It looks like a nail with a spring on it.

Does anybody know how to get this part? Does anybody know the name of this part?

Mercruiser Service says it's only available when you buy the whole carb, but that doesn't make any sense to me.

Thanks
Chris

Re: Mercarb Parts

Hoot,
Good find! I previously looked at the Rochester diagram from my year (1989) hoping it would be there instead of the Mercarb drawing, but it wasn't.

Looking at your drawing, the carb is a bit older (1978), but looks damn close to my Mercarb 2bbl.

Do you think the "Power Piston Assembly" would fit my Mercarb?

Thanks again
Wake

Re: Mercarb Parts

ps; this item might be available at a local parts store. i think an automobile version of this carb was used on a lot of older GM trucks.

I'm running into the same problem here and was wondering if anyone knew of the outcome of this thread. Fat Chance. Any help appreciated.

Go to your local boat shop (doesnt have to be a dealer) and I'll bet they have some corroded out carbs there that they might just sell you parts from.

Im 99% sure a Rochester part is the same. Im thinking the big diff between rochester and mercarb is the base plate (throttle plate).

Re: Mercarb Parts

Hi R, I had a similar problem (needing carb parts). I broke my choke shaft and thats all i needed. It says in the manual you have to replace the air horn (in my situation not yours) I believe i called most of the used carb part yards advised and those that turned up in a web search. Most wanted like 75$ just for the air horn.
I know iboats does not sell used carb parts so i think i am ok giving you another resource. I found one locally off a used boat parts dealer here in stuart FL, we went to his yard behind the store where he had several huge shipping containers with old parts in them. He went to bucket of 2bbl carbs and the first part he pulled out had my shaft. He sold me the air horn for 40$ which i dont think is cheap. He knows what he has and isnt giving it away but you may find your part. They are always busy but very nice to deal with.

Since we don't know where you live...I can give you 3 slavage places in CA if you are more West than East. PM me and I will send you the names and Ph#.

Also since that part is sameo sameo marine or land you can go to a junk yard and find a carb or parts that will work and probably a lot cheaper since it's just an ol' car carb.
