I just recently bought a new rebuilt 2BL Mercarb to go on an '86 3.0L Mercruiser. This carb has some type of a "cap" / cover over the idle mixture screw. Is it possible to remove this cap to allow full movement of the idle mixture screw? Right now it only has very limited motion to the left or right.

Pictures of the "cap" /cover may be viewed at:
http://home.comcast.net/~mikenlaura1/

Thanks for the help.

Mike

Re: Mercarb Question

Those caps are there as a pollution control requirement. They're to stop people running the thing too rich. You will probably have to remove it for use on a boat engine.

Chris...........

Re: Mercarb Question

Mike, can't get the picture tp load, but the caps that are covering most low speed needles can be removed to adjust the carbs

Re: Mercarb Question

the pics are there just too big and in the wrong format for web pics.. over two megs in size and one is that blurry u cant see enough anyway.. with a dial up connection it would take all day to view em..

the thing u mention is the "knob" looking thing at the bottom right of the blurry pic is it.. it is an anti fiddle device u either get it off somehow or see if the carb works okay with it on.. it should be set somewhere near right as it is or at least permit enough adjustment for things to run okay..

trog100

Re: Mercarb Question

Pics reworked and resized. Pic2 shows the best look at the cap over the idle mixutre screw.

Can this cap be pulled off or cutoff (dremel) to get full access to the idle mixture screw?

Re: Mercarb Question

I remember Don S. talking about this not to long ago. It said " A Little Story".It was on someone else's thread, within the last 2-6 weeks I believe. Unfortunately he's not here any longer, but look through carb related posts, it's there somewhere.............J
