Mercarb rebuild question

So I disassembled my 2 barrel mercarb step by step by using my manual (#7). Two questions.

The very first step it lists is to remove the choke cover. I've take the three little screws out and got the border gasket type thing off, however I cant get the choke cover off shown in the the manual. Should i just lube up a bit and pull hard? Only asking because this is my first rebuild and dont want to break anything.

Secondly. As i said i followed the manual step by step to the end. Now I've got to the cleaning part. The manual makes no mention of removing this piece (long springy thing), and I cant see clearly in the listed diagrams what it is. Can I soak it, or should i remove it first? Thanks

Re: Mercarb rebuild question

Your not cleaning much of the cover. Leave it the way you have it. Pay attention to "venturi cluster" & bowl. That's what really needs cleaning. The cover, just make sure that it's clean from the fuel filter/inlet to the needle & seat.

Well, that makes sense, they are definitely much dirtier than the cover. Thanks

that long piece with the spring will just pop out by the way, you dont wanna soak it because it has plastic and rubber on it. good luck
