I got my rebuild kit for my 87 3.0 2 barrel mercarb but the instructions are not very clear. I can't really use the way it was assembled as a guide because someone did a bad job on a previous rebuild. Any one got any clear instructions out there for this carb?

Re: mercarb rebuild

I re-built the mercarb on my 88 3.0 a while ago and can tell you it is about impossible without the right mercruiser manual in front of you.
I forget the manual # you need but I'm sure someone will chime in with it.
It's either #6 or #10... one is for alpha1 drives and the other is for the 4 cylinder motors, I get the numbers mixed up though.

Re: mercarb rebuild

I've rebuilt the heads, the carb.,new fuel pump, set the timing, and still the 3.0 mercruiser loads up.There's black residue in the water (with the muffs on) and the plugs are black with soot. It backfires occassionally and gas has seeped into the crankcase. If I start it with the fast idle up it sometimes will burn off the excess gas and run without missing until It idles back down again then it floods out and dies. I checked the fuel filter for water but found none. Have I over-looked anything?

You need manual #10 for that engine. It is online now, Click Here It's 148 MB in size, so it may take a while to download.
