Mercontrol external connector?

I have a Mercontrol control box on my 402 Merc Thunderbold. The box has an ignision-key, electr. shoke button, a shift-lever and a throttle.
I noticed a plastic cap on the front-side of the controlbox. When i remove this cap, there seems to be a three-wire elctrical connector underneed. Can anyone tell me what this is for? Can i connect any instuments here? I'd like to have a voltmeter and a meter to check the RPM. Where can I connect these?
