Mercontrol tach wiring

Trying to figure out what the white wire is for that is hanging by the stater on the back of my tach I have power to it just don't know if and we're the white wire should be hooked up to thanks

Sorry about that it's a 1984 mariner 75 hp 4 cylinder

Gee, try to get a wiring diaghram on the maxrules web site. White used to be ign power on 1980 and older motors. I did not think it was used after that year.

Forgot to mention the power head is a 84 and the mercontol is a 76 I do believe so it may not be used when the key is turn to supply power I have power going to the back of my tach so should my tach work after the new stator is put on and the Rectifier the two yellow wires were broke from the stator thanks

Looks to be a 14 gauge wire. That large and white?????? Tach wiring is on the order of 18 ga or less and uses power red/purple or purple, for switched 12v from the 2000 or 3000 Commander control harnesses, black for ground, grey for tach signal, and something for the light bulb power......white maybe I forgot, but not 14 ga.....bulb current is less than an amp; 18 ga plenty for that. You sure that's not an after market previous owner addition for something else in the boat?

Idk I comes out of we're the wire for my tach sending wire which is brown my choke wire which is grey a red wire which goes to the reciftier and a orange wire that goes that box were all the other wires are at maybe it's not used idk guess I'll find out after I get the stator in and installed

That '76 MerControl will have the old wire colors. The motor will have the newer wire colors. I can give you the connection scheme, if you need it.

After I replaced the stator and reciftier my tach started working so Iam guessing the white wire is not used
