Now with the hose on water only exuasts through the prop and blows out by the shift coupler area. engine ran for 8 to ten minuets very smooth and srtong before I shut it dowm, the temp held around 140. Question is, shouldn't it be blowing out other exaust ports also rather than just through the prop hub?

Ayuh,... It's water, it takes the path of least resistence...

That said,... Sometimes with a low or no water situation, the exhaust shutters get burnt up,+ fall down into the exhaust path...
If that happens, you can usually see bits or pieces of 'em in the lower exhaust path, with the drive off...

i'm confused by these two statements. which way is it?

this is what i think would be normal for where water comes out at...

water is exiting 4 places. the prop hub, the idle relief ports (port and starboard) in the gimble housing and the pee hole at the ft. of the bullet. put my pic in paint and blow it up to see how much water is exiting the gimble housing area, it's kinda hard to see in the pic. i usually get more out one side of the gimble housing area than the other. but water does exit in 4 places.

assuming your 165 is a L6 and not the fwc 470 version. 140* is just about right on. 140-160 would be normal. imho...

Re: mercruise 165, changed impeller, but now

Thanks for responding. My 165 is a four cyl. Alpha One B772088 1987?? The idle relief ports is where I expected to see water as I did before I changed the impeller. But now knowing that just seeing water exiting through the prop hud is fine, I'm relieved. Thanks.
