Re: mercruiser 120 gear lube leak
I've got the same issue, the drive was rebuilt 4 years ago I found out by the local shop looking up the prev owner, my upper bellow had lube in it... After I did the impeller change gear lube began to leak from the upper bellow so I knew I better dig in..
#1 coincidence or time for new seals & bellows. Bearings all turn smoothly by hand no chatter or brown grease, is it best to do a full seal kit & new bellows?
#2The gimbal bearing looks tricky being my 1st transom pull down. It turns smooth by hand as well, but should it be replaced as well since I'm thus far? I can fix anything, after I tore it all down in under 1.2 hours I feel this is a cake walk, but I wanna make sure on the seals if there are things to look for, not buy etc. The funky wrench to get the yoke off I don't have yet (wasn't gonna chance breaking the potted looking metal) but should be in the mail box today

Just down loaded the manuals that were posted previously, I really appreciate that guys!
#3 As for the u-joints mine have grease zerks, I'll be sure to add marine lube, no rust on the outer portions so I'm sure water wasn't getting in. Do the seal kits come complete? #87501 $25.09 OEM# 26-88397A1 & #39622 $5.09 OEM# 27-94996T2 I've read in some previous posts some don't contain everything..
just blows my mind a yoke seal went bad so fast, I wonder if the prev owner banged the skeg when transporting, could that have started this possibly?
anyways happy 4th all while I'm in the drive way doing a lil R&R in the 105+ sun drink a cold one for me
thx Jeff
