Mercruiser 140 ign coil

Is there anything special about a merc 3.0l 140hp, with points ign coil or can i use a automotive one?<br />cheers

I don't see a problem with it........<br />Just be sure to get the right one.........<br />Internal resisted, or external resisted.......<br />I'm not Sure, But I think you need External......

Standard automotive coil will work fine. Just be sure to get one with "Requires external resistor" on it. These engines have a "resistive wire" in the loom. The coil is feed with about 7.5 volts while running.<br /><br />Chris...........

The OMC coil is only $32.00. Got one 2 weeks ago.

I have a mercruiser 120 hp. and just put a auto coil in with external resister. runs fine.
