1980 4 cyl mercruiser 140 181ci inboard engine. I was having problems keeping it idled, now it stalls when I put it in gear? Once I have it in gear and put it about 3/4 throttle it bogs out and stalls. This is all on the muffs. I've replaced the spark plugs(.035 gap) oil change(black oil) new carberator fuel filter, and new in-line fuel filter, cleaned out the carb with carb cleaner and looks great, does anyone have aby suggestions. New high octane fuel, the tank was run farely dry before.

It sounds like the Carb is Gummed Up,.... Inside.......

A Good Internal Cleaning,+ a Carb Kit might fix it........

Had the same prob last summer, I adjusted the shift interupt cable linkage,
Mine would stall right before going into gear, to prevent it from dying I would have to floor it and of course nearly throw everyone overboard, eventually it would not go into fwd only in reverse, we adjusted the linkage and now everthing is smooth.

Haut, I'm 90% with on the carb, I was just trying to throw 10% in another possible cause, a way to test is how I came to a conclusion, throttle up out of gear and throttle up in gear and see which way the problem occurs.
I am in no way a mech and don't pretend to be this is only my way to narrow my problem and not others.

Thanks guys, this will ease my wife alittle since she thinks we have a lemon for a boat. I have to get this up and running. I'll let you know how it all works out.
