hi there,

What battery capacity do I need for my boat with the mercruiser straigth 6 - 4.1 liter??
Will a car battery do it as well, or what is the advantage in taking a specific one for boats?

Enjoy the weekend - thanks for your reply,

Re: Mercruiser 165 IL6

Pretty much any battery will work. I believe the marine starting batteries are advertised as having a heavier duty construction to better handle the bouncing and vibration.... but bottom line is any good battery will work.

If you do much running of accesories without the motor running, it would be recommended having two batteries - one starting battery and one deep cycle battery. The deep cycle battery can handle being drawn down and recharged more often than the regular battery.

One more note that many ignore - Mercruiser recommends not using the top screw type of batteries that are typical for outboards. Use the "regluar" top post auto type of battery and connection.

If you do use the wing nut type terminal battery you MUST tighten them with pliers! 'nutcase
