Hey guys I have a 77' mercrusier 165. I just put a new impeller in around a month ago. I never noticed this untill now but it looks like the lower drive assembly isn't lined up just right in the rear, its offset to the right. It doesn't leak and it operates fine. I have put about 10 hours on it since it was put together like this. Has anyone seen anything like this? Is it supposed to be offset like this or should I drop it down and try to realign it? I would go ahead and try it but it was quite a pain to get it back on. plus the oil is $16 a quart. Any advise on what the problem could be if there is one?

There is an alignment pin that might have came out.I wouldn't worry about it.
Good luck,J

Semo, please resize your pictures in Photobucket. They are too distracting to view when their size causes you to have to scroll left and right to see all the picture and read the text.

At the bottom of the 'upload' box (in photobucket) there is a box that says 'reduce to'. Choose 640 x 480 then all your future pictures will automatically paste to that size.

You will probably have to delete the current pictures and re-upload them with that declaration. Then repast the URL into the post.

I figured it'd be fine how it is. the only thing is since I have done the impeller te boat now lists to port side, it never did this prior. If you look at the pics and think about it, if the thrust was coming out directly straight out the rear, with it being offset like that the lower skeg would be slightly angled making the boat turn left. even though its only a few degrees off I think it might be causing the listing problem. Lets not turn this into a whalefin bashing thread now... I'm putting smart tabs on next season, I go back away to college at the end of august so there's not much boating left for me this year to justify $200 smart tabs. It does go almost completly away when I trim up.

One more question; I turned the anode trim tab into the direction of the list, it seams to help a bit but now the boat is extremly hard to steer to the right. I had the tab set to the center and the steering was butter both ways. Anything else I can do to fix the list without ditching the tail? the boats got a bad holeshot so I want it on there.
