mercruiser 200/v8 hose out of valvecover?????

i was wondering what is this hose out of my valvecover. it looks like a pcv valve goes there there is another hose on the other side that looks just like it but its blowing alot of air when i crank over the motor. should these be connected.

perhaps they are ment to vent right under the flame arrestor?

They shoud go into the side of the flame arrestor. The elbows that look like PCV's are hollow, the idea is for the engine to draw the crankcase ventings in. Excessive oil vapor blow-by is what you are seeing, and , well, you should not be seeing it even if your engine is worn and has a lot of blow-by, it should vent into the carb's airflow.
