Hey guys just put an offer on a 2000 240 Searay Sundancer with a 5.7 EFI Mercruiser. Is this more fuel efficient because of the fuel injection??? and has there been any problems with a 2000 5.7 EFI that I should know about or watch for. I am getting a sweet deal on this boat!!! the engine has 150 hours and run in brackish water. I would appreciate any feed back.

Thanks as always
COOL IT

Re: Mercruiser 2000 5.7 EFI

I repowered with a 2000 Merc 5.7 EFI. That year they had 2 EFI models- throttlebody and multiport. I bought the throttlebody 'cause it was $2000 less than the MPI.
No problems for the first couple years- much easier cold starting, but no obvious performance or mileage improvement over the old 4bbl. carb engine. In 2003 I had an intermittant problem that we traced to a bad ignition coil. Otherwise, it was a good engine. Sold the boat last spring. Hope this info helps.

Re: Mercruiser 2000 5.7 EFI

I had a 1995 5.7 EFI TBI 250 bhp, I also installed that engine, but in a new hull. I am not sure, but others here might be, what differences there are between the '95 and '00, but mine was efortless. Needed nothing, ever. I ran it until Summer 2003. We put probably 100 hours a year on it and I run my boats hard, but with a lot of respect. When I sold it I was pretty bummed even though I was ushering in a new boat. I wish I could have kept it . . . :(
