I have been restoring a Century 3000 BR for many years and have not had it in the water yet. FINALLY I decided to change the oil and when the oil dropped out of the pan I ended up with around 7 quarts and with OBVIOUS water. The water was actually clear and separated out from the oil. The only time I ran this engine was 2 years ago off a garden hose and it ran fine. I drained the block by taking out the drain plugs and left them out. That is all I did to winterize the engine is,, drain the water. I am at a loss where this water came from other than to think it just never all came out and before I drained the engine some got into the oil. Is this hopefully just an intake gasket issue,,, or could my block be cracked. With the plugs our and room for expansion through the hoses I don't see how the block could be cracked. I did find one hose on the front port side off the block that had a loose clamp and it slid off the nipple and some water came out of the hose,, about a cup or two. Now I have a drained engine with no oil. What to do now? Put new oil in to protect the engine until I can pull the intake? How can I find out if I have a cracked block? My son suggested pulling out the oil pan plug again and running water back into the engine through the lower unit with the garden hose and muffs,, once replacing the drain plugs to see if water comes out the oil pan drain hole. Any ideas here? I am so depressed,,, so much hard work and a day from launch for the first time and this happens.

Pressure testing your engine cooling system would be a good way to tell if their is a problem. It can be pretty hard and labor intensive to pinpoint leaks with visual inspections alone. The experts here may be able to offer better detail on how to seal things up and do the test properly.
