Mercruiser 228 no spark?

Grandfather gave me his 1975 Mark Twain with 77-78 mercruiser 228 in it. There is no spark coming out of coil. Check coil with meter and shows good. Any ideas?

How do I get the old motor oil removed?
Oil looks milkey could this be from sitting for 5 yrs?

Grandfather said it was running when parked but, when he put it in the water under aload it would just nose down and not push the boat.
Any ideas?

Should I change to electronic from the points I have too?

Ayuh,... Start out with downloadin' the Manuals from the Adults Only section at the top of this forum...

I'd start out with fixin' the Points to light it off,...
The Points fire the coil, so don't change that 1st...
It may not be worth Savin', muchless throwin' Money at...

The oil is sucked out the dipstick tube, or possibly drained into the bilge, into a suitable container...
