well some of you may have been following some of my other threads. long story short ive got a 78 mercruiser 228 (small block chevy 305) that needs a rebuild. motor is seized to the max. how much can i expect to pay to get it rebuilt. should i contact a marina? or an auto place. my dads a manager at firestone and he said he wanted no part of it! lol but he would refer me to a napa shop that would do it. just want to know what the damage out of my pocket is going to be. thanks fellas!

It will probably be cheaper in the end to go with a 5.7 crate engine....;)

such as? internals? crankshaft and such? its been sitting for 5 years i think the pistons are rusted to the cylinders. havent even had the motor out yet? if i upgrade to a 350 heads and carb and exhaust manifolds and all that happy stuff interchangable? how about mating to the sterndrive? that sounds like problem after problem!

Yes, you're pretty lucky, as long as the externals are in good shape, and usable, they'll all bolt up to a comparable year motor, the best thing you could do is dump that 305, and put a 350 in there!
