I am buying a 1985 Carver Voyager with twin Mercruiser 230's. Engines run great, heat exchangers look brand new. Under extended idle and cruise both coolant temperatures check out at 160 degrees.
When engine is shut off it is evident that there is a hairline crack in the circulating pump case on the port engine. Probably leaks about 1 gallon every 15 minutes or so. Apparently they didn't even notice it and have taken it out frequently earlier in the year. It's dry moored, so that another reason it probably didn't get noticed.
They knocked $500 off the purchase price as I am definitely able to do the work myself. I have checked replacements, like the jabsco and they run 350 to almost 500, but I hear there is a rebuild kit that would include a case for only 150 or so. Is this correct, or is there somewhere I should be looking for a replacement case?
Thanks
