So, I'm having a bit of difficulty. My old bell housing and outer transom plate are toast. The corrosion on the drive bellows surface is shot; it won't seal any more. Time for new used parts.

Originally I thought I had an Alpha drive on a pre alpha transom setup. I don't. I have an early version alpha assembly with the splined steering shaft.

I've been looking on Ebay, and I see some very similar examples, only on my transom assembly and y pipe the holes beneath the main exhaust hole are small and circular. On the examples I see the holes have been elongated to a 'tear drop' shape. It looks like it will bolt up to my y pipe and still cever. The seal is an oring. I'm 90% that the teardrop style will work with my pipe. Anyone know if it will work for sure??

I included a couple of pictures. 587 and 590 are my pipe and 'noname' is a pic off the one on ebay. It also only has 4 bolts, mine has 4 in the same pattern, plus a long allen head bolt as a 5th.

Thanks for any help or advice,

Chay

Ayuh,... The first 2 pictures are of an MC-1,... built Before Alphas...

The 3rd pic. appears to be an Alpha 1...

That's what I thought, but it's not. I actually ordered up a pre alpha transom fitting...it won't fit. The one I'm calling an 'alpha' is wider (has the notches onthe outside for the trim limit switches) and is slightly longer. Sucks to be me!

Maybe a couple more pics would help:

600 is the front of the 'alpha' fitting, 601 is the side, 602 is the rear.

603 is a front shot of the 'pre alpha' I bought to replace it.

604 is a side by side shot. I don't know if you can tell, but the outer profile is smaller on the 'pre', and the lower bolt holes are 1/2 futher up (housing is shorter). Crap.

Also, the 'alpha' has the large hinge pins etc.

One more pic of the back of the pre alpha..in the exhaust area they have the same bolt pattern which is what led me to believe that it was a pre-alpha as well.

Ayuh,.... ALL of those are MC-1s, 'n None are Alpha 1s....

There were quite a few changes during the MC-1s, as you can see...

Bondo, I've been meaning to thank you for the info...that bit helped me out quite a bit. I now have what I'm 99% sure is the right part on order.

I had no idea there were pre alpha revisions that looked so much alike. I guess they evolved like anything else.
