Mercruiser 260 Good Engine

Is a Mercruiser 260 from the mid 70's a good 350 engine to rebuild and convert to Vortec heads?

Ayuh,....... The 2 short comings would be flat tappets, 'n the 2 pc. rear main seal,......

Thanks, I had forgotten all about the 2 piece rear main seal.. Don't want to go there... Will wait for another engine..

Pretty sure the bolt pattern on the crankshaft to flywheel differs also -- The experts may be able to verify that.

Ayuh,..... That's due to the rear main seal change,......
