I had water in the oil so replaced the "flopper valve" which was gone and rodded and tested the manifold. Now no problems when its running with the rabbit ears on the trailer but out on the lake the water in the oil came back! Compression is good so the local repair shop said I need an extension on the elbow because as boats get older they sit lower in the water(1990 bayliner capri). Does this sound reasonable? I cant find such an extension online and he says it will cost $300 or so for the part. I am a certified Harley Mech. with zero experience on boats so bought the factory manual but it says nothing about this problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Find another repair shop! Boats DO NOT sit lower as they age, and if its got that much water is in the hull you got much bigger problems! Sounds like freeze damage or maybe headgasket!

Re: Mercruiser 3.0 Exhaust Extension

I had the head rebuilt and the cyl compression is good. the water only showed up in the oil when in the water, not with the muffs on in the driveway(ran it for a couple hours total). I installed the new "flopper valve" but was told those early ones didn't work well. I also generally have lots of gear and people in it. Is there a later model exhaust that would be better than some extension? Any advice welcome!
