I just rebuilt the stock carb on my 1998 Mercruiser 3.0. When the engine is cold, it starts on the first crank. When the engine is warmed up, it only wants to start if you advance the throttle to wide open while cranking. After reading other posts with similar issues, I decided to check to see if fuel was dripping from the carb into the intake manifold. I found that the fuel was only dripping from only the rear venturi. When the boat is not under power, it sits fairly bow high. Possibly why dripping only from the back venturi. I then put the boat on the trailer and adjusted the trailer so the boat and carburator were perfectly level. After warming up the engine, I checked for dripping fuel. I found no drip. The engine also would start on the first crank with the throttle set at idle. Currently the float height is set at 3/8" (has 2 piece solid needle) and the float drop height is set a 1-3/32" exactly as specified in my manual.
My plan is to try the float height at 7/16" or maybe 1/2" to decrease the fuel in the carb bowl.
Just wondering if you all think I'm headed in the right direction or should try something else ???????
