MerCruiser 3.0 L engine on a 2001 Bayliner.

The engine serial number on the flame arrestor on top of carb is worn off.

The engine serial number plate on the starboard side of the engine near the starter is there and stamped. It reads: "M001708"

Mercury parts catalog will not recognize this serial number. Have tried w/ different combinations of swapping 0 for O still no luck

The outdrive serial number is 0L884058 and parts catalog finds that no problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks

On Mercruiser parts splash page there is a "All engine and Drive Models" click on it

Next page look for 3.0 with no years listed next to it.

Next page will give serial number ranges -

This range should fit your engine 0l097000-thru-0w301999

I used it when repowering from a 4.3 to a 5.0 using all the accessories and wire harness off the 4.3- didn't have a Mercruiser serial per se, just used a carb alpha 5.0 of the serial number range similar to my 4.3 serial.

While it may not read correctly serial number range wise and not offer the best/all the images, or even all the parts, here is a parts catalog from iboats if interested at all as I can assure you it's the correct one by matching up the parts catalog part number for your engine which is 90-809870 96, http://www.iboats.com/3-0L-GM-181-I-...iew_id.1681877
