Mercruiser 3.0 - Throttle sticking between 3/4 and full

Hey guys,
Took the boat out last weekend and when I move the throttle between 3/4 and full it gets hard to push down. I can give it a little effort and it pops down to full and the boat accelerates. But when I go to back off the throttle a little and hit that same spot, I have to pull up and it jumps down causing a noticeable difference in speed. I'm figuring the cable is toast, but want to make sure there isn't some sticking adjustment I am missing somewhere.

Thanks!

Disconnect the throttle at the end of the cable at the motor and see what happens.

If you have a pressure control on your remote you can back that off and see if that's hanging it up.

You could be left with taking the remote apart and checking the cable on it's own.

Thanks Mike. I will give that a shot. The boat is an 88 and I'm assuming the remote is the same age. It definitely feels like something is hanging up and catching, so not sure pressure control would do much as I would think that would be a constant issue, not just at that one throttle setting. I'll see what taking it off at the motor does and take it from there.

Found the issue. Someone decided to "fix" the interior by using screws that were 4" long. The bolt was going in and the cable kept hitting it and then popping off. Removed the bolts and throttle is like butter,
