Anyone know what the real difference and performance etc is for the MPI engne over the non mpi engine on the mercruiser 3.0? This option is on the Tahoe Q4 boats and it is about $2,500 upgrade and only secondary engine option this year....

How will it perform, more horsepower? quicker pickup? quieter? What are all the differences? I cant find any reviews or comparisons even from Mercruiser....

Thanks.

As far as I know, there has never been an MPI 3.0litre Mercruiser....

Me too didn't know they ever made one. New option you say.

Ouch 2500 for it?

No 3.0litre MPI listed on Mercury's website... Smallest MPI engine is 4.3L V6.... and it's always been that way....

Marine Power Source lists a 3.0 MPI as NOW AVAILABLE, CALL FOR INFO.

That's all I've seen on them. They've been rumored to be coming out for some time, maybe they finally have!

I'll take an MPI over carbed any day for the smoothness and driveability. Should use a little less fuel also.

Volvo now has the new 3.0MPI, with Catalitic converter. I know it's available in California this year, but not sure when it will be available nation wide.
It's 150hp.

OK so then, does anyone know what the horsepower change will be, reliability, fuel usage etc and reason for such a $2500 jump on cost if its worth it?

Back to original I suppose...

At the tahoe site it shows when you Build a Boat for pricing it is a motor option. thanks

It sucks. I bought a 2009 Ebbtide 192SE with the new 3.0L MPI and the performance is dismal. The top speed is 32 MPH and it takes over 10 seconds to get to 20mph. The same boat without the MPI had a top sped of 38mph with a lot quicker planing speed. Mercury has done nothing yet and I am not sure they will. I was shocked to see such a difference.

$2,490 bucks of that is due to the cat converter that Cali pushed for....

Kinda glad I got relocated at times.....

Yup, this all goes back to the 2010 emisions standards. Pretty soon, all aboats will only be availible MPI, and carbs will no longer be an option.
