Hey all:
Yep, I've got a strange engine noise. I'd describe it as clanking or rattling, a metal against metal noise. I only happens at about 2200 rpm and higher, and only after the engine has been running for 10 to 15 mins. It honestly sounds like something is rattling on the exterior of the engine, though I cannot see anything doing so. The noise does not match the rhythm of the engine (in a 5 second period I might hear 2 or 3 clanks/rattles). Also, engines does some knocking after shut off. Could this be related? Probably not, right?
The engine could use new oil and plugs, but both are relatively new. Also, I am soon going to install a fuel/water separator. Can new oil, plugs and the separator help (with the noise) in anyway?
Otherwise engine sounds and runs great!
Engine is factory crate engine 2005 Mercruiser 3.0L with low hours, about 50 or so.
Thanks for your input in advance.
