Hi all, I have a 1999 3.0L Merc and it's leaking oil from what seems to be around the timing cover area. The cover looks pretty rusted. It has a steady drip. I've done some searching on this board and it seems to be a common problem, perhaps caused by a leaking water pump. Anyway, would this require an engine pull to fix?

I'm wondering if I can wait till the fall, when I pull the boat, to fix this. Do you think the timing cover could blow a large leak when I'm boating and blow out the oil, possibly messing up my engine? Has that ever happened to anyone?

Any ideas and or suggestions?
TIA

Carl

Your saying now that there is a steady drip. It is only going to get worse as time goes on. Not only does this mess up your boat but im sure some manages to make it to the water when you run the bilge pump. A steady drip needs to be fixed.
