Mercruiser 3.0LX Fuel filters question

Hello all,
Doing some TLC on my SeaRay, I changed the filter in the carb, and was wondering about the filter in the fuel pump. Unless I'm mistaken, from what I've read in the manual, this filter can't be changed (or it's recommended not to mess with the pump). Is the filter good until you have to replace the pump? If not, any advice on replacing it, heads up?
Thanks in advance,
Bob

If it still has the "stone filter" just clean it. If not you can buy the paper type replacement.

I think the carburetor inlet filters are fine for an automotive application. Marine, is another story. You should find a way to mount and connect a fuel/water seperator.

You'll thank yourself later.

Djohns....That is not what he asked. But you are correct! A water/seperator is the best.

I should install a water sep filter along with the pump?

Yes. Replace the filter in the pump and install a water separating fuel filter kit with a spin-on replaceable element to make it easier to service and save you a bunch of head aches from moisture issues in the future.

Re: Mercruiser 3.0LX Fuel filters question

Bought a replacement filter (stone type) for the pump...how do you replace it? The manual I have for the engine only talks about pump replacement, not filter replacement for the pump. I can't see on the pump body how or where to loosen the bracket holding the filter body in place. Merc 3.0LX 135
Thanks (again) in advance!
Bob

There's a bolt on the bottom of the "strap" that wraps around the bulb. Loosening the bolt allows for the strap to be unfastened and the bulb to be removed. Reverse the procedure for assembly.
