I installed a Pertronix Ignitor to eliminate the points last week. Today I am installing the Pertronix matching coil. The problem is the directions for the coil say to eliminate the resistance wire from the coil. I have a resistance wire because I measure approx. 6 volts when grounding the negative terminal of the coil and connecting the positive lead of the volt meter to the positive side of the coil and the ground lead of the voltmeter to ground. There are 2 wires joined by a spade lug hooked to the positive side of the coil now. One is white and the other is tan. Which one is the ballast resistor? And, can I just cut that wire and then hook my 12 volt swithced wire to the positive terminal? The switched wire I plan on using is a solid purple wire about 16 gage.

The resistorwire is purple also and is built into the engine harness. You can just clip the ends of it to do what you need to do.
