Mercruiser 3ltr Power Steering

Hello all,

I'm in the process of buying my first boat so I apologise for the question if it seems silly. By looking at the pics below can you tell if the boat has power steering? Is the resevior on the top right for PS fluid?

Hi,

No, that is the drive lube reservoir. If I recall correctly, the power steering fluid filler cap is on the top of the power steering pump which can be found if you follow the fan belt from the crankshaft to the opposite side than the alternator.

The power steering pump is right below the top water pump hose on the left that leads to the thermostat housing the pump it's self has a resivior with a cap and dip stick to check for hot or cold level.

That engine doesn't have power steering on it.

The reservoir is for the gear lube in the outdrive which makes in an Alpha I Gen II outdrive, probably 93 or newer.

Oh dear,

I'm rapidly loosing faith in the seller of this boat. Steering is hard to the right but easy to the left. My research indicates prop torque which can be offset by the trim tab? He thinks it's something to do with power steering which i didn't think the boat had (hence the post). Anyways, he says he'll fix it before selling so fingers crossed. Boat is sound otherwise.
