Hi I have aquired an 86 regal with a v6 205 mercruiser. It was not winterized and the exhaust manifolds were cracked plus water in the oil. I am going to rebuild and was wondering if I need an actual mercruiser block or can I use a regular gm short block for replacement. And while I'm asking can I move up to a v8 5.7 or will it not buckle up to my alpha one. Thanks, Brad

Ayuh,... It'll buckle up, but the drive is the wrong gear ratio,+ you'll need alot more parts to go V8...

A Chevy 4.3l block of the Same Vintage is a plug, 'n play situation...
Change Vintages,+ All bets are off...

Re: Mercruiser 4.3 block change

Hey thanks for the help I read in another post you said 4.3's ar a dime a dozen. I'm having trouble finding a long block for under $2400. Also I can't seem to find a short block at all. If you have any leads I would be greatful. Salvage is fine too. Once again thanks for the help. I can return the favor if you need any help with guns guitars or woodworking.

Ayuh,.... $2400. should get you a Brand New, not rebuilt long block...

I wouldn't try to salvage the heads for a short block...

Michigan Motors maybe,..??
