with engine running and remote put in foward or reverse does spin the prop and or sterndrive it's when it is in water under a load it will not move, in other words I can put it in forward or reverse and it will move in idle not neutral but as soon as i give it throttle the boat won't move. So i guess what i'm saying is the boat being under a load it won't move.

Possibly a spun prop hub... With a permanent marker, on the back of the prop mark a straight line from the propshaft, across the prop hub and towards the blades of the prop. Put the boat in the water and try to go. Afterwards recheck the line marked on the prop. If the line is no longer aligned up, the problem is a spun prop. Either have the current prop repaired at a prop shop or replace it.

Keep everything under the same post ,not start a new post with the same question,
On land a bad coupler will spin the prop, the test is done as listed in your previous post, WITH THE ENGINE OFF, in fwd gear, stand on a prop blade and see what turns and what dosent

Do the engine off coupler test first. You have to remove the outdrive and engine to replace the coupler, so make sure that is the problem!

If the prop does not move during the engine off coupler test (meaning the coupler is holding) then you can test for a spun prop hub. The simple test for a spun prop is to mark the prop and hub and then try your on the water test again and see if the marks stay aligned or move.

This might help someone out in the future. I use a white paint pen and pre-mark my prop hubs. I look at it everytime it comes out of the water.

hey guys and gals, my update to the coupler and spun prop thing is that i did in fact have a spun prop after investing in a costly lower stern drive before i posted on here. dum me but hay we learn. i bought from west marine a stainless steel quicksilver typhoon prop 14/21 with hub kit and that my friends woke that little machine up. so thanks for all your help and trouble shooting tricks. :D
