mercruiser 4.3 hour meter

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a used 1998 monterey with a 4.3 liter mercruiser. I have looked everywhere and cant seem to find an hour meter anywhere. Is there one on all motors and if so where is mine?

Anyone? I know it may soound dumb to experienced boaters, but to a newbie like me its really a legitimate question.

Not all boats have hour meters.

I have a '95 Monterey 196 with the 4.3LX, and it doesn't have an hourmeter, unless the thunderbolt ignition system has some kind of memory that can be extracted. I found some surplus hour meters at a place in Orlando(Skycraft), but decided that since I change the oil every year anyhow the meter would just be an extravagance.
