mercruiser 4.3 turn key start

Mine spits and sputters after you shut it off. If you let it idle for a few minutes before you shut it off it doesn't do it. Has anyone else heard of this? any fixes?

What year? Might be a timing issue.

Usually the idle speed is too high when it does this. Also make sure it has the correct spark plugs installed. If they are the wrong heat range (ie: too hot) it may also contribute to the problem. And check the timing while you're at it.
Fix it sooner than later because when it does this there is a risk of water ingestion into the engine.
